Google comic fonts
Testing out some of google comic like fonts to see how they might match up.
Pure experimentational and for a bit of fun.
Gluten font
This is a good classic font, I like the line spacing and the readability.
Gloria Hallelujah font
Don’t like the angle, could of been a great font. The leaning to the left throws me off.

Itim font
Runs a little small, also feels a little to clean not enough variations to make it feel like a comic.
Gochi Hand font
Runs small, might be good for a comic strip but not a full page. Would need to be adjusted.
Grandstander font
Like a bigger cousin to Itim, but a little more variation. Still seems a little stiff.
Rancho font
Font size is smaller based on other fonts, could be harder to get right. A little too many details to the letters.
Devonshire font
Runs on the small side, might be good for certain letter references or content that a character is reading.
Mynerve font
This is a true handwriting font, but doesn’t give a great comic feel. Could possibly use for narratives.
Molle font
This is more for titles and fun emphasis, wouldn’t use in speech bubbles.
Englebert font
This is a tight font, would have to play with the kerning. Not sure it would work fully.
Delicious Handrawn font
Runs small and is barely readable at smaller sizes. Could use for other projects just not comics.

Waiting for the Sunrise font
This one is a little thin to be readable at smaller sizes, might need to use this for title work vs speech bubbles.

Freehand font
Another one that could be used for letters characters are reading, probably not great for a speech bubble.
Walter Turncoat font
This one is good, its a classic comic feel and good at smaller sizes.
Single Day font
I’d probably use this for comic strips vs pages, would need to increase the size its a little small.
Oregano font
This one seems pretty versatile, could be used for speech bubbles and narratives.
Loved by the King font
Kerning on this one at smaller sizes is a little tough to read, maybe I’m getting blind.

Comic Neue font
This one is clean, but a little too clean to have a good comic feel.
Reenie Beanie font
Sort of a diary of a whimpy kid style font, also runs a little small.
Rock Salt font
This would make a good emphasis font, maybe paired with Oregano (the font).
Shadows Into Light Two font
Its not bad, a little thin. Could be used maybe for narrative work.

Summary
I use Oregano sometimes, but I’m leaning toward Walter Turncoat (who doesn’t like that name) as a base font and maybe tossing in some Rock Salt as emphasis in different bubbles to see how those would work.
If all else fails I’ll start looking at the comic book fonts site, their Meanwhile and MONOLOGOUS fonts are particularly great.
Other fonts from google that seem pretty interesting to play with would be:
- Freckle face - for an emphasis font
- Jolly Lodger or Bigelow rules - for darker comics
- Trade Winds or Butcherman - for monster comic titling
- Architects Daughter, Patrick Hand or Cabin Sketch - for bubbles
Goo fonts has a good list here.
